If you are wondering if love belongs in the workplace, the answer is absolutely YES. I'm not talking about a love affair with a person at work. I'm talking about the experience of love at work. We spend half of our waking hours at work and sometimes more. It would be awful to not experience love during the most productive hours of our days. The experience of love can show up in different ways in the workplace and make a significant impact.
1. Love enhances social wellness. In the workplace, it is good to love the companionship of like-minded people. The important friendships formed at work can contribute greatly to our social wellness. Social wellness allows us to connect with our humanity and reminds us we are not alone. It also helps to grow skills like teamwork, communication, networking, and marketing.
2. Love promotes office wellness. When we love the work we do, it gives us a sense of accomplishment and purpose. Having a solid mission purpose, and love for our work produces good work ethics and creates a positive work environment.
3. Love improves mental wellness. The love of learning new things adds to mental wellness. Challenging our mind to think differently promotes creativity and mental stamina. These concepts lay the foundation for innovative marketing ideas and problem solving.
4. Love contributes to financial wellness. Loving our paycheck is the incentive most of us enjoy. It helps relieve us of financial stress that could hinder productivity at work. Need I say more?
5. Love teaches emotional wellness and intelligence. Practicing self-love by acknowledging our feelings in non-judgmental ways helps us to live more authentically. There is freedom in forgiving our mistakes and accepting our limitations. This freedom helps us to assess our strengths and weaknesses in healthy ways so we can do the same for direct reports or other colleagues. It also makes critical thinking easier. enables better strategic planning and improves communication skills.
So, yes. Love absolutely belongs in the workplace just like good coffee belongs in our office. They both go well together, and they fuel our day with satisfaction and strength.
